ALAN honors Amazon.com Inc., Total Quality Logistics for humanitarian efforts

Organizations win ALAN's Outstanding Contribution Award during CSCMP Edge show.

Disaster relief organization The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) named the 2019 winners of its Humanitarian Logistics Awards during a keynote session Tuesday at the CSCMP EDGE 2019 annual meeting in Anaheim.

The awards honored Amazon.com Inc.'s Disaster Relief by Amazon program and the third party logistics provider (3PL) Total Quality Logistics, which both received ALAN's Outstanding Contribution Award, and Nezih Altay of DePaul University, who received ALAN's Research And Academic Contributions Award. The final name on the roster was author and supply chain resilience expert Phil Palin, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Disaster Relief by Amazon earned its award for leveraging Amazon's extensive services, operations and logistics technology to help advance the cause of effective and large-scale disaster relief, most recently in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.

Total Quality Logistics received its honor for Moves that Matter, a program that provides funding to help non-profits and businesses defray the cost of humanitarian shipments - and for TQL Cares, an in-house initiative that raises millions of dollars and contributes thousands of volunteer hours to various compassionate causes each year.

All the winners have made significant contributions that align closely with ALAN's mission of providing free logistics assistance to disaster relief organizations before, during, and after catastrophic events, the group said. "Each year we have a chance to recognize outstanding companies and individuals who are living, breathing examples of what selfless logistics is all about," ALAN Board Chair Mark Richards said in a release. "When the chips have been down, these honorees have repeatedly been there to help - and to ensure that hope and comfort reached those who needed it most."
