FedEx Ground marks opening of Savannah DC
160,000 square-foot large package processing center helps meet growing e-commerce delivery demands, company says.
Logistics and transportation provider FedEx Corp. is celebrating the opening of a FedEx Ground large-package processing center in Savannah, Ga., today, the company said.
At 160,000 square feet, the stand-alone center will help FedEx more efficiently handle a growing number of large packages in its network as a result of increasing e-commerce. Large packages now comprise more than 10 percent of the company's package volume, FedEx said.
The Savannah facility, which employs more than 400 people, is part of a larger network expansion in which 17 major FedEx hubs have been added and 500 other facilities have expanded or relocated since 2005. FedEx Ground alone has seen its daily volume of packages more than double in the past 10 years, the company said.
