UPS said today it expects to hire nearly 40,000 seasonal employees this Friday in a one-day, nationwide hiring blitz the company is calling "UPS Brown Friday."
The event is part of an effort launched last month to hire 100,000 seasonal workers to support the annual holiday shipping rush. UPS said it will host nearly 170 hiring fairs across the country on Friday, Oct. 19, and anticipates hiring thousands of candidates on the spot for full- and part-time seasonal positions as package handlers, drivers and driver-helpers.
The seasonal posts will lead to permanent jobs for some candidates. Over the last three years, 35 percent of people hired as seasonal package handlers with UPS were hired for a permanent position after the holidays, the company said.
