NFI joins Volvo Trucks' LIGHTS project
3PL will operate Volvo's electric truck demonstration units as part of a California project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Third-party logistics provider NFI is partnering with Volvo Trucks and California's South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for the Volvo Low Impact Green Heavy Transport Solutions (LIGHTS) project. As part of the partnership, NFI will operate Volvo Trucks' all-electric truck demonstration units in Southern California in 2019. Volvo plans to commercialize the units in North America in 2020.
The Volvo LIGHTS project is part of a California initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the economy, and improve public health and the environment, the companies said. Organizers say the project is estimated to eliminate 3.57 tons of air pollutants and 3,020 tons of greenhouse gases annually.
