Global express carrier DHL Express today opened an air cargo gateway at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, DHL Express' third such facility in Chicago.
The $10 million building is located at O'Hare's northeast cargo campus, joining one other facility in O'Hare and a third at Midway International Airport on the city's south side.
The new 54,000-square-foot gateway will create 75 new jobs, including import and export agents as well as training and office personnel. The facility can process more than 4,500 pieces per hour, ranging from small parcels to palletized freight, according to the company.
In addition to accommodating future shipment volume growth, the expansion of operations will supplement DHL's U.S. network capacity to expedite package delivery shipments during the peak shipping period, the company said. DHL Express is headquartered in Plantation, Fla.
