Sealed Air Corp. will sell autonomous floor-cleaning robots under a new agreement with Discovery Robotics Corp.
Charlotte, NC-based Sealed Air's Diversey Care division will now have the exclusive license to sell Discovery Robotics floor-cleaning machines in the Americas and Europe, as well as non-exclusive rights in all other global territories.
Discovery Robotics, founded in Pittsburgh in 2014, makes the FX250 Commercial Floor Cleaning Robot, designed for use in large buildings such as schools, hospitals, airports, and malls.
The robot is designed to work alongside human employees, handling the floors while the rest of the cleaning staff is deployed to high-touch work so the entire team cuts down on the time on the job, Discovery says. "Discovery Robotics has created a leading-edge solution based on 3D lidar, sonar, ultrawide band, and other technologies to create a patent-pending indoor navigation and localization system," said Thomas Boscher, general manager of Intellibot Robotics at Diversey Care, in a release.
"Diversey Care is committed to leading the [janitorial and sanitation] industry with robotics that deliver improved performance at lower overall costs and with an improved sustainability profile. This agreement reinforces our strategy to own the space by designing, building, and partnering, as needed, to stay ahead of the competition while bringing substantial new value to our customers and shareholders," Boscher said.
