Kansas City Southern (KCS) today named Patrick Ottensmeyer president of the railroad concern, effective March 1.
Ottensmeyer will continue to report to David Starling, who will relinquish the president's role but remain as chief executive officer, the Kansas City-based company said in a statement. Ottensmeyer is currently Kansas City Southern's executive vice president and chief marketing officer. His promotion is part of the railroad's succession plan, the company said.
Ottensmeyer will assume responsibilities for operations, including transportation, engineering, mechanical, network operations, operations support and information technology. He will continue to oversee sales and marketing, the company said.
Ottensmeyer joined KCS in 2006 as executive vice president and CFO. He has more than 15 years of rail industry experience, notably with BNSF Railway Co. as vice president of finance and treasurer.
KCS operates as a north-south railroad. It is particularly strong in the Mexican market.
