E-commerce titan Amazon.com said today it will open a 1 million-square-foot distribution center this fall in South Carolina's Spartanburg County, making it the company's second facility in the state.

The facility is expected to create what Seattle-based Amazon said would be "hundreds of new jobs" in South Carolina and involve a $50 million investment. Hiring will begin sometime this fall, the company said.

Amazon opened its first South Carolina fulfillment facility last year in Lexington County.
