FedEx raises LTL rates
FedEx announces 2010 general rate increases, joining rivals in rate hike.
FedEx Corp. said today that its two less-than-truckload (LTL) units, regional trucker FedEx Freight and FedEx National LTL, will increase their tariff rates by 5.9 percent effective Feb. 1. FedEx joins a slew of LTL carriers that have imposed so-called general rate increases for 2010 in roughly the same range as the FedEx increases.
The increases apply to freight that is tendered on a retail basis and is not part of a contractual relationship or another type of transportation agreement. It has been estimated that at least one-fourth of all freight is tendered on a non-contractual basis.
