Well, not exactly. The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) can't boast of a starring role on TV, but it has produced a couple of educational videos that bring the business of supply chain management to the small screen.
The first is "What in the World Is the Global Supply Chain?" a DVD designed to interest high school and college students in careers in supply chain management. CSCMP also recommends it for entry-level and newhire training. (We've found it to be a great way to explain to friends and family what we do for a living.) The 40-minute program illustrates a host of careers within the different branches of supply chain management, including transportation, logistics, warehousing, strategic analysis, and procurement. The cost is $49.95.
"This Lean Garage" features "lean" management experts Robert Martichenko, Derek Browning, and others as they use the contents of a typical home garage to explain how companies can use lean principles to eliminate waste and save money. Among the topics covered are the key elements of a lean enterprise; value-added vs. non-value-added processes; the seven wastes; the importance of the organized workplace; "5S" thinking; quality at the source and error-proofing; and the Plan-Do-Check-Act approach to sustaining waste elimination. Members pay $79.95; the cost for nonmembers is $99.95.
Both items can be ordered through CSCMP's Web site, www.cscmp.org.
